What Is An Energy Star Window?
ENERGY STAR® is a certification program run by the Federal Government to help you identify energy-efficient windows tailored to your climate. Windows must meet specific performance criteria based on the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) standards. These standards vary by climate zone:
- Northern Zone (Blue): U-Factor ≤ .27, SHGC any
- North Central Zone (Yellow): U-Factor ≤ .30, SHGC ≤ .40
- South Central Zone (Orange): U-Factor ≤ .30, SHGC ≤ .25
- Southern Zone (Red): U-Factor ≤ .40, SHGC ≤ .25
